On second thought (a second poem for day 16 of National Poetry Writing Month).

A lone night walk

This longing does not suit me.
The church bells ring and I
Ache.
Footsteps behind me
crinkling about the autumn leaves
tell me
‘Keep moving.
Don’t stop to pause here in this’.
I quicken my step
More frightened of the stranger than these
familiar feelings.
